Miss Daisy has arrived on U.S. soil. Daisy is the new niece of an old friend, someone I have known since we were 6 and saw recently for the first time in a few years. The mom of this old friend tutored me in math in middle school and was my advisor and one of my favorite adults throughout high school. (Also, is it appropriate to mention that after the last time I saw her daughter, she drunk-dialed my cell phone to tell me stories about how cute I was in high school? God, I love that family). Daisy's Mom and Dad got a call to let them know that Daisy, 9 1/2 months old, was waiting in state at a Chinese orphanage for their arrival. This call came within a week or two of the sudden and unexpected death of Mom's (and my friend's) brother. Daisy has big shoes to try on at her new home. She also comes at the perfect time for this family. The timing of her arrival feels hopeful and heavily influenced by karma. Welcome home.
