Okay, I know it's such a cliche to use a wedding picture... but I LOVE this photo.
This was August 2004. We were doing the hora, the traditional Jewish wedding dance where they left the bride and groom (obviously we have our own twist on this) up in chairs and dance around like maniacs until you're sure they'll drop you. Then they do the same thing to your parents (who, to their credit, laughed about as hard as we did when they were up in those chairs).
And of course I love this picture for so many reasons beyond just that it was an amazing day and I got to marry my favorite person (which would have been amazing enough without all the other pieces of it).
It marked the ends of 8 months of out-of-control wedding planning - not the Martha Stewart type of out-of-control, more the "we're planning a party involving both of our families and absolutely EVERYONE is insane" type of out-of-control. File the planning under what my mother refers to as AFGE - Another Fucking Growth Experience. Well worth it, and ultimately our relationship got so much stronger for all the work we did, but, as Mark Twain says, "I am glad I did it, partly because it was well worth it, but also because I shall never have to do it again."
AND we were able to get LEGALLY married, which I still can hardly get my head around.
AND we were married by a rabbi (who happens to be a close friend): the faith we both grew up with gave our relationship full support.
AND most of our favorite people were there, actively supporting a relationship that many of them took years to be okay with.
I don't know if it gets any better.
