We were in a double kayak (if you can't tell from the angle of the picture), which we NEVER do - they don't call them divorce boats for nothing. But it was incredibly windy that day and pouring off and on, and we really wanted to see those whales.
We did. They were amazing. You spot them by looking for flocks of circling birds, since where there are whales there are fish.
This was the trip we took after we got married. Our sea kayaks were a wedding present of the "wow this is indulgent but we don't feel guilty at all" variety.
I love this photo because it reminds me of that incredible trip to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and of the sundown-on-Friday paddles we took almost every week that summer, when we were driven insane by wedding planning and had a few hours to think about absolutely nothing and be together and calm on the river.
