Bishops to oppose adoption by gays. Massachusetts Catholic Charities wants to seek an exemption so that they don't have to take on gay and lesbian couples as adoptive families. Religious and ethical arguments aside, this is a state that includes sexual orientation in the non-discrimination laws, that has been openly supporting adoption by same-sex couples for more than 15 years, and that recognizes marriage as a union between two people regardless of gender. Oh yeah, and: the core mission of Catholic Charities is to find adoptive homes for "needy and abandoned children." So here's an idea: exclude perfectly qualified families who are protected by the state but have the wrong damned reproductive organs for their tastes. Pick your effing battles, please, and stay out of our lives.

I think, by the way, that Catholic Chraities does GREAT work as far as it goes.

But no way I dialed them when I needed to find a local home study agency. Know who I dialed? Lutheran Social Services. They've been GREAT.

I just picked up the phone, called the number and said "hi, I'm a lesbian and my partner and I need a home study for an adoption. Have you ever done that before?" Turned out LSS had. And the rest is history! -------- COMMENT-AUTHOR:Blogger Poor_Statue COMMENT-DATE:9:21 AM COMMENT-BODY:That stinks, Marisa. You would think that in this forward thinking state they would also be forward thinking. --------
